Cephalotus

Cephalotus Follicularis

Origin: South-west coast of Australia

Cephalotus follicularis is the only plant in the Cephalotus genus, and is characterised by its low-growing pitchers, which grow no higher than around 7cm. The pitchers grow in rosettes, and have a spiked rim with nectar glands to attract insects. With enough sunlight the pitchers acquire their characteristic red colour. Unlike most carnivorous plants, the Cephalotus does not need to be kept very moist. It also does not catch flying insects, but rather crawling insects such as ants.
