The chubbiest pitchers of any Nepenthes variety are those of the hookeriana. They develop a red rim, with brown markings on the light green pitchers. It is hard to imagine that the lid (operculum) can keep rainwater out of the pitcher, because it is so small. If the pitchers are dry when the plant is delivered we advise filling them (once only!) to a quarter with rainwater.
